Hey everyone! I'm here to give some hints about Crafting! I'd like to say I really LOVE the crafting system in FFXIV. Compared to crafting such like WoW, where it's just some minor annoyance to get over with in order to reap the spoils at the end, without any true care of self-investment. Or to mention FFXI's crafting system… actually, forget it; no honourable mentioning there…
But what I want to share with you are MACROS! - These macros will attempt to maximize your crafting potential for exp gain and high-quality synthesis with just one click! (or two)
I started making macros, once I realized I was repeating the same routine over and over AND in times of low attention-spans, would mess up and break the synth for using 'Basic Touch' @ 10% durability, or accidentally insta-craft a NQ item, that would normally be easy to HQ, by hitting 'Basic Synthesis' from the very start.
There WILL be some fancier ways of doing macros at later stages, once you acquire more crafting abilities and is able to utilize abilities from other crafts. One thing I dearly recommend however, is getting Weaver to lvl15 for the ever-useful 'Careful Synthesis' ability, which has a 100% SUCCESS rate, but for a 90% progress rate - This small (2-3 pts) sacrifice is well-worth it, as I too often experience that 'Basic Synthesis', despite having a 90% success rate, tends to fail thrice in a row, or at the very last 10% durability, causing a nauseating failures of HQ92~100% crafts, often resulting in loss of mats.
Last thing to mention, is that having accessories with additional CP will of course help you improve these macros. You can usually buy somewhat cheap rings and such at the local "jewellery" vendor, present at any of the capital city markets.
This I use at low-level crafting classes for 40/40 crafting mat. synthesis, such like Bronze Ingots, Cotton Yarn, etc, It's important that you have sufficient crafting gear, that will finish the craft in a single Basic/Careful Synthesis. If you also have enough CP, you can add an extra 'Basic Touch' after the Master's Mend. The 'Steady Hand' at the start is optional, but I highly recommend it.
Important! This uses all 15 lines available for macros, but I strongly recommend using 'Steady Hand' before activating this macro. 'Standard Touch' I believe is acquired at lvl18. By this level, you should be able to wear most CP+ gear and really start utilizing these. You may wonder why I'm not just spamming 'Standard Touch' all the way, but… it just works better for me this way, somehow. I've had more success by alternating between the two "touch" abilities.
That last macro, I use whenever I want to watch stuff on Youtube and such, to pass time while crafting. I simply keep XIV window visible next to my browser window, so I can see my Crafting Log pop back up once my macro is done and the craft has finished. You can also use this macro to focus on chatting in XIV, while the synthesis takes care of itself, although I recommend filtering off all synthesis-related messages from your primary chat box!
if you DO look at the screen while the macro is running and you see that the gauge is at HQ100%, already halfway through the macro, there's no need to let it finish, so I recommend a macro-stopper (e.g. "/echo ––-macro has been stopped––-" or simply: "/ac "Basic Synthesis" <me> (or) /ac "Careful Synthesis""), so that you may finish the synthesis right away yourself, instead of having additional "Touch" abilities trigger at 100% HQ.
When crafting "important" gear, e.g. that you wish to HQ for profit or personal use, I recommend using your own pace and judgement of the synthesis' progress, rather than macros. Wonderful CP-restoring and Durability increasing abilities can be learned from every craft and combined to nearly flawlessly crafting HQ equipment and such!
